January 26th, 2018

Welcome to the final Friday in January 2018.

That was fast! Phew.

And now: Videos!

Cautionary Tales

“A bizarre incident as a young boy left Aaron with an unusual facial disfigurement that has plagued him all his life. Isolated and vulnerable, Aaron seeks comfort in the friendship and understanding of an unexpected group of outcasts”

A beautiful little short film from a production company called “Us“.

Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek

“Set your phasers to “thrill” with this Nerdist Presents parody that explores classic Star Trek in the style of the pulpy B-movies that influence Quentin Tarantino.”

Fun fact: Tarantino apparently is actually working on a new Trek film!

Le Pas-de-Calais : Version Originale

“We were in charge of this video project that was ordered from the Pas-de-Calais department in the aim of promoting its territory. Waiting for an original and creative idea, we opted in favour of a dynamic video realised in timelapse and hyperlapse only. ”

A cleverly shot hyperlapse. Gorgeously produced.

Created by Hors Format whose other videos are also worth a look.

Theo Katzman – Plain Jane Heroin

Mr. Katzman is an artist I really enjoy, and this performance is excellent.

Bonus Video!

Animated Sheet Music: “Confirmation” by Charlie Parker

“Once again Youtube’s basic compression can’t handle Bird’s 16th notes.”

This is kinda neat!

Also I love Charlie Parker.

See you again next week.

Happy Friday!

It’s time for some videos!

Bruce Lee Lightsabers Scene Recreation

“So I saw an image of Bruce Lee with Lightsabers and decided to create a scene recreation of Fist of Fury (1972) with Lightsabers.”

Expertly edited by youtuber Patrick Nan

Making the rounds, and deservedly so.

Elise Trouw: Foo Fighters Meets 70’s Bobby Caldwell

You may have already heard of this artist. I had not. She is pretty interesting. Live looping of parts that she plays on keys, guitar, bass, drums. She’s pretty talented. And her musical choices are interesting.

Really well done. She has numerous videos with a lot of views but this one struck me.

“In the not too distant future, food shortages during a pandemic force recently widowed George to stray far from home to survive. A simple purchase of rations derails when George stumbles upon a Shopkeeper’s secret, placing them both in mortal jeopardy.”

This is a shockingly believable currently fictional short film.

How to Figure Out the Day of the Week For Any Date Ever

“You might think that computers are the only things that run algorithms, but you’re wrong. Here’s a neat mental trick for calculating the day of the week for any day ever, developed by famous mathematician John H. Conway”

Math! For the win!

Bonus Video!

A tiny robot that prints notifications from phone

“This is one of my Arduino projects. A tiny telegraph that can write any text messages that look like a telegrammes. This project made of oak plywood.”

I love this stuff. 🙂

Have a lovely weekend everybody.

Ahhhh Friday…

Who’s ready for some videos?

Yeah you are! Here we go.

A Band Of Thieves

“The story of a young, western-obsessed girl hell-bent on turning her quiet Texas suburb into the lawless playground of her imagination.”

And by “young” they mean… like… 8.

This is terrific.

PAINTBACK by Legacy BLN – Graffiti Culture & Art Tools

“Answering messages of hate with love & art.

“A couple of artists turned swastikas into beautiful streetart.”

This is in Berlin, and apparently swastika graffiti is so common that this is now a thing that citizens have taken upon themselves to counteract.

Marlon Brando Interview with Connie Chung, Sept. 1989, Complete

From “Saturday Night with Connie Chung” on October 7, 1989

Actually a pretty fascinating, coherent interview from this volatile iconic actor.

MPC Blade Runner 2049 VFX breakdown

“Replicating Rachael for Blade Runner 2049 was both a huge honour for our artists as well as an exciting technical and creative challenge.”

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I do recommend it. This is some herculean VFX work.

Bonus Video!

Marbles, Magnets, and Music (Synchronized)

“I’ve taken the piece “Waltz of the Flowers” by Tchaikovsky, and synchronized it to a chain reaction marble run by hand.”

…which must have taken days, and days, and days…

And there we go. Videos! All done. See? We can do it!

I’ll catch you guys next week.

Happy Friday fellow Bomb Cyclone survivors!

And welcome to 2018

Hey – Speaking of snow:

Beautiful 48 hr Time-Lapse of 2016 Blizzard

“This 1 minute time-lapse video captures the 48 hours of the 2016 Blizzard that hit the east coast between January 22 and 24. The camera was set up on our front porch in northern Virginia and captured 1 frame every 30 seconds.”

The Collection

“Two friends stumble upon a unique and valuable piece of motion picture history in Omaha, Nebraska.”

Specifically: a collection of letter press blocks and plates used for film advertising from the 1930s through the 1980s.

This incredible animation shows how deep humans have dug

I won’t spoil the ending but… pretty frikkin’ deep!

Some interesting stats here.

Sky’s 16th Birthday, Solo Flight

With no further information whatsoever. This video is 3 years old but I liked it. Her excitement is pretty evident.

Bonus Video!

Daft Punk-Something about us cover by 4th grader [re record]

Korean elementary school kids perform this Daft Punk track.

They’re not bad. They look so confused sometimes though. 🙂

Also now this song will be stuck in your head. You’re welcome.

That’s that. Allll Friday video’d up!

There will be more next week. See you all then!
