Welcome, Friday!

Phew – it’s the end of July. So insane.

But we’re here. It’s Friday! Where I live it’s a long weekend.

Good Things. We have to recognize them.

And now: Videos!

The Supercut: 94 movies/shows, 10 weeks and 130+ hours of editing

“After seeing an edit by Gugga Leunnam [e.g.: this.] on the marvel subreddit, I took my shot at making my own type of match cut edit. I did not at all realize the absolute mess and time commitment I was getting into but was extremely happy with the outcome.”

This is inspiring. I love the morph-cutting used here as well.

Under the radar. A great little edit.

Friends Intro Recreated Using ONLY Stock Footage

“Here it is, the most requested show of all and so far the hardest, it’s the Friends intro recreated using ONLY stock footage. Check out the others (including Buffy, Happy Days, and the O.C. on my channel).”

What a specific talent. They’re very close to the originals.

Rapberry Pi Cocktail Machine

Apparently inspired by Blade Runner 2049

“My entry for the 2020 Cocktail Robotics Grand Challenge is this Blade Runner-inspired cocktail machine based on two Raspberry Pi computers, 8 pumps, and three Arduino boards.”

Created by maker Donald Bell from Maker Project Lab.

There’s also a making of video.

He also supplies the full plans, wiring diagrams, etc. Very cool.

Kinetic wave sculpture

A hand-cranked wooden replica of an ocean wave.

Simple, and beautifully made.

There we go. Videos: Sorted!

Have a fabulous Friday, and an excellent weekend.

See you next Friday!

Well happy Friday everybody!

We made it! Yeah! [fist pump]

It’s video time. Let’s go!!

Japan Freestyle Skateboard Session with 15 Year Old World Champion

“Can you believe he’s only 15? ?? On our last trip to Japan we stopped off in Otsu, Japan and spent a couple days filming with our friend Isamu Yamamoto.”

From the very first hit, this is 100% gold. (Note: he is now 17.)

Perfect for a Friday.

Lost in motions

“More than 800 wood cuts and pictures. Watch at the end the behind the scenes video”

Breakdancing, captured frame by frame, in custom-cut materials, and reconstructed via stop-motion animation.

Created by Fernando Livschitz from Blacksheep films. He (and they) notably created the animated intro for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

At home science – How to make play dough – ExpeRimental #15

“Pasha, Rushana and their son Aaryan explore how mixing different quantities of water with different types of flour produces some surprising results. They learn how to make this classic children’s toy, while learning the difference between a mixture and a solution.”

Play Dough = science!

Mars in 4K

Not really “video”. It’s super clear views that are carefully panned and tilted over.

It’s stunning. And they go into detail about the different cameras on board the different Martian rovers.

Created by ElderFox Documentaries.

Frankly I find the narration suuuper annoying. But despite that, this is great.

Making the rounds.

We have come, at last, to the end for this week.

I hope you’re all doing well, and staying safe, and keeping sane.

More next week! See you then.

Welcome back Friday Folks!!

It’s video time.

Go! Go! Go!

Step Inside the Circle

“Unaddressed childhood trauma changes how we respond to the world and when triggered, we make choices that sometimes have devastating consequences including domestic violence, addiction, murder and prison.

“I, too, would have been incarcerated had I not had the privilege and support system I lucked into.”

This is a moving, complicated video. Powerful.

Also a link to donate to the Compassion Prison Project.

Ludwig Göransson – “The Mandalorian”

A brief behind-the-scenes of how Mr. Göransson composed the theme for this Star Wars offshoot.

He’s good! The comments are worth a peek (for a change.)

10 Easy Science Experiments – That Will Amaze Kids

The second one is an air pressure experiment which crushes a soda can, which I think I first saw when I was 11 years old.

This is great.

The complicated history of surfing – Scott Laderman

“…Despite its casual association with fun and sun, surfing has a richer and deeper history than many realize. Scott Laderman shares the hidden history of surfing.”

A great talk.

And there we go. Frrrrriiiiiday Videos!

I hope you are all well. Stay safe!

Hooray for Friday!

I for one am super glad it is Friday. This week was crazy busy. (And just: crazy.)

I hope you are well.

Ready for videos? Yeah you are!!

Uçan koltuk – Flying Couch Potato – Paragliding – Ölüdeniz/Turkey

“I am a professional tandem paraglider in Turkish Riviera; Ölüdeniz in Turkey. You can find me there in summer months to fly with me. In winter months, I fly in Pamukkale region in Turkey.”

This is Hasan Kaval who decided to rig up a sofa, a tv (playing Tom and Jerry cartoons,) and a small table lamp to a huge paraglider.

This is the most bonkers video I have seen in a while. Super entertaining.

Building the Perfect Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder

I am late to the party on this one. This is Mark Rober, who previously built a couple of versions of a Porch Pirate Glitter Bomb.

Here he basically tried to build something that would prevent squirrels from eating bird seed, but ultimately created a reward system for the squirrels.

Highly entertaining.

Choose Your Own Adventure | The World’s Largest Model Railway

And by “Largest” they really do mean “THE Largest”. It has a functioning airport. It has boats. It has a huge control room. Insane.

At the end of the video you can “choose your own adventure” to see more detailed videos about how the whole thing works.

“The film was conceived loosely as a live action musical animation, reminiscent of the system used in music animation software such as Stephen Malinowski’s Music Animation Machine.”

Beautifully shot destruction of tableware set to Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor for Organ.

Therrrrre we go. Videos. Friday. Friday Videos!

Enjoy your weekend everybody. Stay super safe!

Heppy Friday!

Welcome to July! It’s July!

And it’s video time! Here we go…

Making GIANT helicopter style FIREWORKS

It should go without saying but DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! The very first shot the guy sets off a small rotator INDOORS! Yikes.

But I find this stuff fascinating though. Happy fireworks weekend!

Longboarding Meets FPV Drones – Norway (4K)

Beautifully shot. This must have taken a lot of rehearsal. So good.

The Swish Machine: 70 Step Basketball Trickshot (Rube Goldberg Machine)

“This outdoor Rube Goldberg Machine goes around my entire yard, and swishes a basketball shot after 70 steps. This video was filmed in one take, meaning there are absolutely no hidden cuts or edits. The machine took a month to build and another month to successfully work, so please share this with anyone who needs some entertainment during these strange times!”

I mean when you’ve got the time, yes please. 🙂

So good!

Walkman in the Park: Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the portable music player

“Sony Corp. marked the 40th anniversary of the Walkman on July 1, 2019, with an exhibition in Tokyo’s bustling Ginza district.”

An odd little exhibition, but cool. Also: look at the crazy design evolution that device went through!
