Welcome back to Friday everybody! We made it. Phew!

And now some videos!

Self Solving Rubik’s Cube

Holy crap. Self explanatory.

Making the rounds, and for good reason.

Mind Control Made Easy by Carey Burtt

“Or: How to become a cult leader”

A short, probably effective documentary film with a bit of sarcasm. But this sounds entirely possible.

Crazy

Stupid Qubit – Quantum Computing for the Clueless (episode 001)

“What the photonic muck is a quantum computer?”

It’s funny. It’s educational. It makes a super challenging topic like quantum computing slightly more understandable.

I like this!

Exploring Abandoned Tunnels in Philadelphia

“Philadelphia is steeped in the rusted history of the Industrial Revolution; a city where abandoned factories and warehouses line former rail corridors that once served as the lifeblood of the 19th century American economy.”

I love this stuff. Speaking of which I recommend the Seattle underground tour also. So interesting.

That’s all I’ve got this week. I hope your weekend is fantastic.

Happy Friday!

It’s the first Friday of Autumn 2018!

And it’s also video time. Here we go…

Everybody Dance Now

“This paper presents a simple method for ‘do as I do’ motion transfer: given a source video of a person dancing we can transfer that performance to a novel (amateur) target after only a few minutes of the target subject performing standard moves.”

Code base to do this is here.

Created by 4 researchers at UC Berkeley. What a great use of this technology!

A clearer description is here.

Ship traffic in MiWuLa – RC – micro models in their elements

“In the Miniaturwunderland Hamburg, you can not only observe beautiful landscapes, planes taking off and landing, trains and vehicles, but from time to time also very detailed RC ships in the appropriate scale.”

That museum sounds interesting as well.

Verge Science: We met the world’s first domesticated foxes

“This week, we meet the very cute and very bizarre result of an almost 60-year-long experiment: they’re foxes that have been specially bred for their dog-like friendliness toward people. We do a little behavior research of our own, and discover what scientists continue to learn from the world’s most famous experiment in domestication.”

I love foxes, and for a long time wondered about how “tame-able” they would be. Turns out: something like 70%. But they would be very, very different from dogs.

Perhaps in another hundred-thousand years though…

if modern internet companies existed in 1970s – early 1990s

…complete with VHS scan-lines.

Really well done.

There you go everybody! All video’d up.

Have a stupendous weekend.

It! Is! Friday!

And now we have some videos to look at. Yay!

GALAXIES VOL. III: Voyage To The Core

“Being fascinated by the core since I started astrophotography where it was barely visible (Denmark), I started looking for the best places in the northern hemisphere where I could get a clear view.”

These shots are fantastic!

ブレイカー」BREAKER /// Cyberpunk Short Film

“In tomorrow’s Tokyo, the technologically-enhanced body of a young mercenary hacker is overrun by a sentient data weapon. ”

This is extremely well made. Wow. Visually stunning.

ENOUGH

“Moments of lost self-control.

“This is my first-year film at the Royal College of Art.”

Talented animator Anna Mantzaris created this charming very short film. So good. Making the rounds.

Toy Story 3 IRL Trailer

“For way too many years now, my brother and I (with the support of our awesome family and friends) have been working on a shot-for-shot recreation of Toy Story 3.”

What a crazy project!

Open a Lock with a Paper Clip

Sure. Do that. Just… make sure it’s *your* lock. 🙂

Have a happy, safe, dry Friday. See you next week.

It’s the first Friday in September.

Let’s get out there and video!!

Feng E plays Classical Gas in the park

Feng E is a ukulele player. He’s 11 years old. He’s from Taiwan. He plays (no joke) like a bona fide master. He also plays guitar.

His whole channel is worth a look.

Just a dynamite performer.

Chilly Wonka

“If willy wonka was into chill-hop.”

I thought I already included this a couple weeks ago but I had not. This track is fantastic. An excellent “Pogo”-like recreation.

We Became McDonalds Poster Models

Jevh M and his friends noticed a blank wall at their neighborhood McDonald’s, and lamented that asians were not represented on any of the existing posters in the restaurant. So they created their own posted and hung it up. As of this writing it’s still there several weeks later.

This tweet about it went viral in the past week. So good.

Tom Clancy’s Jim Ryan

“Up-and-coming CIA analyst and paper salesman Jim Ryan (John Krasinski) is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time, launching him into the middle of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorist, Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson).”

A Jack Ryan / The Office mashup

I like it!

Why do Supermarket Eggs look Perfect? | Earth Lab

A topic I never thought about, because I’ve never really seen a wide variety of freshly-laid eggs before.

I found it interesting!

These have been your Friday Videos!

See you in a week everybody.
